Re: Glen Johnson
The last excellent full back of ours that ended up there and signed back to us was Dicksie and he was never the same, they have a habit of ruining quality players.

Re: Glen Johnson
Fuck no.

Joe Cole was pretty average on his return (still was better than that shitcunt nolan who played ahead of him) Johnson would be about the same.

We'll be OK at full back one way or another I hope we add quality in other area's where its desperately needed.

Yep. 50 caps for England, Premier league title, £20m transfer - it's been a real disappointment :).

Re: Glen Johnson
He was on the decline after his move to Chelsea. Suddenly he was made for life after signing that contract and he didn't have to try any more. Not his fault but just the way that the game had gone.

He did get his form back for a while but it looks like he's in a serious dip these days with no real desire to get back to the player that he possibly can be.

Alex V 1:50 Mon May 11
Re: Glen Johnson
He shouldn't really be on the decline at 30. The fact he's been switched left and right back a lot probably hasn't helped him.

Re: Glen Johnson
One of my best mates supports Liverpool and he hates him with a passion purely because he is so shit. He watches most of their games and says that Johnson shouldn't even be classed as a footballer.

Personally, whenever I've seen him play in recent years, he looks poor. He was different class when he first came on the scene with us but his heart isn't in the game any more. He's made a fortune, job done.

Jenkinson is hungrier and has time on his side.

Re: Glen Johnson
Including helping them towards a fairytale title challenge last season.

Weird how attacking fullbacks always seem to get more criticism - obviously they focus less on defence, but yet obviously aren't out and out attackers. So he gets simultaneously criticised for not getting forward enough, and not defending enough.

Re: Glen Johnson
I don’t want to se Johnson come back but do find it one of the sadder aspects of modern football, that a player who has been at the top of there game and contributed so much to a club for a good few seasons, played for there country but is now on the decline is cunted and ridiculed by the same supporters that not so long ago would be outraged if the management wanted rid of them.

Lol at those toxic scousers, no doubt the same bunch who think they should still have been fighting for the title this season.

Reminds me of how the Man Utd fans have treated Carrick over the years.

Re: Glen Johnson
Just had a look on a Red scouse forum and this is generally what they think of him (in fairness there were a couple who still rated him):-

Glen Johnson has been on a notorious decline for the past seasons.Whereas before he offered daring runs into the opposition's half and made crosses and made a habit of shooting from a distance (albeit erratically from the most part),he now rarely incursions into the other half and his defensive work, which was never his strong suit, has not gotten any better which is an understatement seeing his many defensive errors from this season alone. He shows no signs of trying or caring, and apart from that excellent suicide header goal,he seems honestly resigned to his poor form.

One would say the same applies for the whole team, but the fact that he looks more apathetic than the rest, who we have seen put in some kind of effort on and off this season, and that his form was in decline from last season or even before that makes his case truly worrying. There just doesn't seem to be any technique or quality left, and worse of all,no spark,no desire.
-------------------------------------------
Been getting better results since he has been out the team! Damn good sight him being injured, don't feel like chucking the tele out the window because of him and his soul destroying performances.
--------------------------------------------

The club is an absolute joke when it comes to things like this. He can't defend, he doesn't want to defend, his concentration in games is pathetic and he offers nothing going forward anymore - let's give him a new contract!
------------------------------------------
I've always been a fan of Johnson but given his recent below par performances that not even I can defend, injury proneness (his number of appearances per season is never very high), incredibly high salary and advancing age, I'm actually surprised we're supposedly going to offer him a new deal.
-------------------------------------------
For an intelligent man his positioning is piss poor.
-------------------------------------------
Only players he has tormented for the past season and a bit are his team mates.
--------------------------------------------
This blokes new nickname should be stop, backwards and sideways!

I hope to never see him and Manquillo on the pitch, at the same time, ever again.
--------------------------------------------
I hope we won't offer him a new deal, he's past it and could be a troublemaker in the dressing room. Best for both parties would be letting his contract run out in the summer.
--------------------------------------------
Not good enough. Must not be given a new deal and let go.
--------------------------------------------
Glen Johnson is half the player Moreno is on double the salary.

That's why he needs to go.
--------------------------------------------
agree with Baz on this one, he's been a great servant of the club and scored some great goals but over last 3 seasons has got worse with age and now injury prone. get rid use the extra cash to sort out Hendo and Sterling deals
-----------------------------------------------

better off without him now, done us a good service but his time has come
-------------------------------------------
How is he still stealing a living out of football
--------------------------------------------
Our worst player last night, he just couldn't string 2 passes together and ran blindly into the opposition.

His time is up
--------------------------------------------
SOOOOOOOOOO glad he's leaving in the summer offers nothing now, with all his experiance you would think he would become a great defender and not get up the line as much and be able to read the game alot more whilst shouting at the defence etc; but he dont. He still tries to do them runs we all loved but his legs have gone and he then struggles to get back into position.
he's not the best at reading a game and oftern is caught out by a pass in through the back of him. Thanks for all you've gave to LFC but also glad to see the back of him now he's done.
--------------------------------------------
I'm sure he used to be pretty good on the ball didn't he? That was his saving grace... Didn't string together a run of 2 or 3 passes without a mistake last night. Horror show. Where is Jon Flanagan!
--------------------------------------------
Terrible, terrible performance.
--------------------------------------------
Can't remember the last time he went a game without holding his shoulder at some point

Re: Glen Johnson
Class player & one of the most missed by us after the post-Roeder fire sale

He's 31, so not over the hill for a defender. Should have a couple of seasons left in him

On a free transfer, it would be a no-brainer, as Jenkinson is heading back to the goonies, if the rumours are to be believed

Re: Glen Johnson
Watched the Newcastle-Liverpool game a few weeks back and he gave the worst right back performance I've seen in many a year - absolute rubbish.
He was a great player but his legs have gone now.
I hope we steer clear.

Re: Glen Johnson
Thought Glen was a great talent when he came through for us, and clearly he didn't want to leave. He's had a good career without quite reaching the level I thought he would. But I don't think he's a good signing for us now; he's simply too injury prone.

Sxboy_66 8:41 Sun May 10
Re: Glen Johnson
Jenkinson either bought or signed on loan for another season, Johnson signed on a free as back up, Demel shipped out, and O'Brien released.

Seems sensible enough, so it probably won't happen.

Alex Bunbury 8:35 Sun May 10
Re: Glen Johnson
Surely it is a question of one or the other? Either extend Jenkinson's loan for another season or buy him outright and if that doesn't come off try and get Johnson in who is still a very good player. I wouldn't be taking both though.

Eerie Descent 8:29 Sun May 10
Re: Glen Johnson
Ha!

I really like Jenkinson, but as a club, Johnson instead on a free transfer is a no brainer, really.
